The Heartbeat of Kumumea: A Journey of Resilience and Hope
Kumumea is more than a business; it is a testament to the power of resilience and the beauty of culture. Founded in 2014 by Lai Sha Bugado on the Big Island of Hawai’i, Kumumea emerged from Lai Sha’s deeply personal journey following a stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis. Faced with mental, emotional, and financial challenges, she turned to her roots and passions, creating a brand that symbolizes strength, hope, and the rich traditions of Native Hawaiian and Paniolo culture.

Collections Inspired by Life
Each collection—Hiapo, Kaona, Ho'ola, Ulana, and Na'iau—is inspired by the living elements of Lai Sha’s children's birth names, intertwining family and heritage in every piece. Through these collections, Lai Sha weaves together tradition, innovation, and compassion, offering products that tell a story of healing and empowerment. Kumumea’s vision is to create purposeful items that blend elegance with functionality, enriching the lives of customers worldwide.

A Community of Support and Growth
Since partnering with INPEACE Center Entrepreneurship, Kumumea has reached new heights. The support from INPEACE has been invaluable, providing financial assistance, media exposure, and opportunities to participate as vendors at various events. This partnership has not only expanded brand awareness but also fostered a strong network of community connections and relationships with other entrepreneurs.

Weaving Stories of Resilience
At Kumumea, every product is a narrative of triumph over adversity. Lai Sha’s journey is a testament to the strength found in love, culture, and perseverance. Her designs are more than just accessories; they are symbols of hope and the enduring spirit of the Native Hawaiian and Paniolo heritage.
